Lead Practitioners
STARS encourage settings to choose Lead Practitioners to help promote better autism practice.
Having a Lead Practitioner in place can improve outcomes for autistic pupils and support the whole staff team to feel empowered.
We encourage Lead Practitioners to attend our AET Good Autism Practice (Tier 2) training and free workshops to feel supported in this role and network with other practitioners.
A Lead Practitioner will work together with the SENCo to embed good autism practice
This may include:
- Being an advocate for autistic pupils
- Supporting pupils, families and staff
- Having secure knowledge of the key areas of difference
- Adapting learning to suit a range of learning styles
- Helping to train other staff in the setting
- Being the ‘go to’ person for advice on which resources and strategies to use
- Accessing support from outside agencies
- Keeping up to date with relevant training and good practice
