STARS can only accept referrals from early years settings, primary or secondary schools where the pupil has a diagnosis of autism. We cannot accept referrals from GPs, health professionals or parents.

Email the STARS team at who can advise you on what support you might need. If we feel you need to make a referral based on the needs of your setting we can send you a setting support referral form to fill in. Schools and settings can also download a Referral Form here

Do I need to make a referral every time I need support?

As our aim is to empower professionals to raise standards in the education of children and young people with autism in their setting a referral may not always be appropriate.

Through reflection on previous STARS support, staff training and our drop in service we can often enable a setting to set up best practice for Autism without the need for an individual referral.

"The support we have had from STARS has been unbelievably helpful and supportive. We have been able to implement so many effective strategies and will continue to do so".

"Staff have grown in confidence and we now feel after all the training and advice much more empowered to meet the needs of all our pupils with SEN and autism"".

"STARS have effectively supported us with A's transition into Year 1. The recommended strategies were practical and successful. This has helped to reduce A’s anxiety and he is now thriving at school. The combination of this support and the AET training has meant we now feel empowered to meet his needs and other children with autism".
